2010 NIS Shootout Rules

Both teams submit a list of 5 players to the referees in the order they will shoot in the shootout

The number of girls in the first 5 shooters is as follows:  U12 - ; U14 - ; U16 - & U19 -

Each team must designate a goalie for the shootout.  Goalie can also be a shooter and does not have to be the game goalie.

Teams will alternate shoots.
A coin flip will determine who chooses whether to shoot first or second.
The shooters will go to an area designated by the referees - no other players can be in this area.
Each shooter and goalie must follow the referees instructions before each shootout.
Once a player shoots, the player must go to the boards in an area designated by the referees.  No other players can enter this area.
After each shot, the goalie must stand off to the side in an area designated by the referees (except if they are the next shooter.  The goalie cannot talk to or taunt the apposing goalie.
If there is still a tie after each teams first 5 shooters shot, the teams go into a sudden death shootout format.
A player cannot shoot twice until all eligible players on the team have shot.
The total number of shooters is determined by the team that has the fewest players.  The total number of girls will be determined by the team with the fewest number of girls but not less than the minimum required on the field for that league.  A minimum of one must shoot in the first 5 shooters, a minimum of 1 in the second group of 5 shooters and the remainer in the remaining shooters.
Each team will be given a form towards the end of their game to fill-out the names and order of your first 5 shooters.
Teams need to fill-out their list of the next 5 shooters (in order) before the 6th player shoots.
Once the shootout is over, each team must immediately leave the field and bench area so that the next game can proceed.  The teams for the next game can both begin warming up during the shootout in the other end of the area.  Once the shootout teams have left, each team can move to the respective end of the arena.

2010 NIS PLAYOFF INSTRUCTIONS

Thank you for volunteering to coach you team.  We hope that you have enjoyed the experience. You are now heading into the playoffs.  A couple of reminders:

1.     In the playoff each team is seeded according to their final standing in their league.  Check the league page on the website for the date and time of your game.  If in doubt, contact your league coordinator  Some larger leagues (U16 & U19) will be split into an Upper and Lower Division for the playoffs.

2.     Have your team meet at least 20 minutes before your game to make sure that you are ready to start on time – if not, the players will not be announced at the start of   the game.

3.     Make sure all of your players wear their team shirts or they will not be allowed to play.

4.     U16 and U19 teams:  make sure that your player ID’s are up-to-date – no ID and the player will not play.

5.     We announce all Championship games and will announce the other playoff games if we have an announcer.

6.     The playoffs are a single elimination tournament.

7.     If a game ends in a tie, the teams will go immediately into a shootout.  See Shootout Rules below.

8.     The championship games are all held on Championship Saturday, May 9th – there will be shoot-outs at halftime for spectators for prizes and mini-balls will be thrown into the stands, so tell your team to show-up even if they aren’t playing.

Most importantly, please remember that these games are meant to be fun.  Players, fans and coaches need to act respectfully to each other and towards the referees.  We have a zero tolerance policy.  This year has been pretty good; however, we have had 5 players receive game ejections and two players have been suspended for the season because of violations.  The referees do not want to kick-out players, coaches or fans out of games but we cannot tolerate disrespectful/abusive behavior or our fun leagues will no longer be fun.

Please help us by talking to your players, leading by example and by not allowing your players to act in an abusive or disrespectful manner.  This also extends to after the game.  In many cases, the adrenaline is running high, emotions are extreme and players say and do stupid things.  Please try to help us avoid these situations.

Again, thank you for all of your help.  Without volunteers like you, North Indoor Soccer would not be as fun and popular as it is.  Because of volunteers like you we had a record 877 players registered to play this year ranging in age from 3 years old to over 50!  We have players traveling from all over the metropolitan area and as far away as Wisconsin!

Good luck in the playoffs.  We hope your team makes it to Championship Saturday and, more importantly, has fun.
